Going into it with 2 objectives – of course,
a) learning it in the context of chucking stuff into our project – what scripting can do for us, and;
b) learning what a good scripting engine should do and how it fits in well with a full engine – the bigger picture and one of the things i intend to get out of the unit.
seems to be the best spot for tutorials.
I cannot get my Doom editor working. Even uninstalled and re-installed, to no avail. When it opens every box is just white and it says “If you can’t see blah-de-blah, restart the editor” Which never works.
Grog – health!
Collectibles – kind of like macguyver, but collect the letters A-R-R-R-! for sea shanty singing ability, which just makes zombie heads explode.
Kumoon, the programmer built his own hysics engine and then built this game to implement it.
Also, paul, you may want to come up with some sketches of what the main character should look like, also we need keypad locks and weapon ideas. things for you while you’re sketching.
Ok, ideas for powerups and items to be used during the game
- Use of a ipod for data access / gaining health / information / listenin to nautical tunes.
- Eyepatch for “Quad Damage” as there’s nothing that can piss off a pirate more than a poke in the eye.
- Pirate Buckle for “God” mode
- Pirate clothes for armour
- Peg Leg for faster movement
Need to add more
Eyepatch: Now one idea that was discussed was the changing of screen perspective, but remember while there is the illusion of depth in videogames, there isn’t actually any depth. Therefore I propose making it harder for the player to hit their target, possibly tilting the perspective is an idea, but we would also need to change accuracy
Looking through map ideas and i’m thinking of ways we can use the idea of ECU to it’s full advantage. The SCIS building has lots of siderooms but we will be required to get into a few lecturer’s offices, let along the server room and the IT staff room. However we should email the help desk to ask their permission. We’re not using any of the staff members in the game, we just want to take pictures so it should be ok.
I’m also thinking about exactly how to handle this game, do we go for tight survival horror or comedy? I’m personally for a tightly handled parody but I don’t know how everyone else feels about that.
Oh well, tommrow’s another day.
Just a quick few weapon ideas
- You start off the level with a bet that you can’t make it to the assignment slot with your hook and your ipod. However you are ingenious and have watched much macguyver.
- There will be a limited amount of weapons to use
- pirate ship (broadside drop)
- throwing knives (3.5″ floppies?)
- mouse nunchucks
- throwing scssi hdds? to that point throwing anything (computers, chairs?)
- toilet brush, toilet paper
- macgyuver gun (you pick up components as you work your way through the level
- black bombs?
These weapons are ideas only, this list will be SEVERELY limited before end.
Divy of Tasks for Design Document (due 27th of March)

- Research possible gameplay elements
- Game Design Elements
- Art Documentation
- Concept Art
- Concept Models
- Basic Gui Design
- Story and Character
- Map Design (basic path)

Welcome to the Game Design and Development blog for Geoff Sutcliffe and Paul Geronimos. This is the area which over the course of a semester you will see development for the final project. This page will also contain random thoughts and ideas.
“You are a SCIS student during the end of the world and your final assessment is due before getting that shiny piece of paper stating that you are indeed educated. YOU NEED THAT PIECE OF PAPER and the apoclypse isn’t going to stop you from anything. So being the hardy software pirate that you are, you jump out your window and sail off into the unknown with one task in mind. TO DELIVER YOU ASSESMENT COME HELL OR HIGH WATER”
Idea is basic, you have to navigate your way through a partially destroyed scis building with nothing but your wits, some skill and possibly a ipod. Of course with so much death and destruction you can’t simply walk down the stairs and get to the assignment slot, the path will be long and windy through many a wall and floor. But nothing shall stand in your way!
